Our sixth-grade class is a year of “bridging” between elementary and middle school programs. The educational design retains much of the structure of our upper elementary 4th & 5th grade classes with opportunities to participate in the school sports, science program, art, advanced band, and p.e. of our middle school. The class is located in the gym building with easy access to the locker rooms and other amenities, but some of the privileges of middle school are not yet available.
Our seventh and eighth graders are officially “Middle School” students, and the program is designed so that the students have a core teacher responsible for the bulk of the language arts, history, and math instruction with pull-out classes and electives in science, writing, art, Spanish, geography, speech, and physical education.
The seventh and eighth grade students are expected to be leaders on campus and are integrated into being part of the Chapel worship team, being “big buddies” with our primary age children, leading fundraising efforts, and taking key parts in our school musicals.
A discipleship class takes place once per week separately for the boys and girls in seventh and eighth grade, so that they may work on being a team for Jesus as “sisters” and “brothers” in Christ and develop the qualities that God has designed for them.
Science is a critical part of our middle school program. We expect students to know the scientific method as well as the concepts and details of cycles, biology, ecology, human anatomy, earth sciences, and physics. To know science is to know more about the Creator who spoke it all into existence and motion. We are grateful for our science lab and the efforts of teachers to bring it to life.
Our 6th-8th grade students are encouraged to actively participate in all county sports, encouraging one another as team members and representing MLCS with excellent sportsmanship. In basketball, volleyball, and cross country, God has seen fit to often grant us victory. We believe that the unity of teamwork in Christ is the contributing factor in all victories for His Name’s sake
