I am honored to be taking over the position of Director at MLCS Preschool. I have an Associates in Social and Behavioral Sciences, with a heavy focus on Early Childhood Education and Preschool Administration. I also hold a Site Supervisor Permit, making this my third year as a Director.

 

I grew up in the church, right here in my hometown of Tuolumne. Ever since I was eight years old and “worked” (volunteered) every Sunday in the Sunday school class and nursery, I knew I wanted to work with children and families. I have spent over ten years working with children and families, in every avenue from volunteering at camps, VBS, running a home daycare to Preschool Master Teacher, and now Director.

 

My husband and I have raised our six amazing children here in the foothills and we are overjoyed to have them join MLCS with me. I look forward to being in a God centered school, knowing no matter what we do, God should be at the center. I can’t wait for the incredible opportunity to be able to shape

young minds while also teaching the word and love of God. I am so blessed to be given the opportunity to treat all our littlest learners and staff with unconditional love, as He loves us all unconditionally.

Ladybug Teacher

I am so excited to join the team at Mother Lode Christian Preschool.
I have been in education for 20+ years, and my absolute favorite is the
preschool age. I am married to my high school sweetheart and a
mother to 11 children. I enjoy spending time with my family and all our
activities. I enjoy giving back to the community by volunteering my time with the Girl Scouts and Tuolumne Bears football. I’m very excited for this next adventure becoming a MLCP Cougar!

Lead Teacher Caterpillar Class

Hello, my name is Candace Thomazin. I am the lead teacher in the Caterpillar class. I started working in child care right after high school. I started with infants at a private preschool in Southern California, then moved up to 4 year olds. Then in 2014 I moved up to Sonora and started working at Safari Learning Preschool. In 2017 I worked for a couple years as the children’s director at Twain Harte Bible Church 

I am so excited to be joining this wonderful family of teachers at Motherlode Christian Preschool. I love being able to teach them about God and prayer and being able to share my faith with them alongside watching and helping them grow. I love being able to help the children learn and grow through different activities like circle time, cooking, art projects and so much more. I am so blessed to be able to teach in a place where not only do I get to help kids learn but I get to share God’s love and so many Bible stories. 

I have two children, my son Steven and my daughter Annabelle. I’ve been married to my amazing husband, Miles since 2016.

Pre-K Teacher

For more than four decades, I have dedicated my life to teaching and caring for young children. My journey in early childhood education began at the age of 18 when I started teaching preschool at Stockton Christian Preschool in 1980. From the very beginning, I discovered a passion for helping children learn, grow, and develop confidence in a loving and supportive environment.
 
After teaching at Stockton Christian, I took time to focus on raising my own family. During those years, I continued my work with children by operating a home daycare, where I provided nurturing care and early learning experiences for young children while growing our family.
 
My commitment to education remained strong throughout the years. When my children attended Mother Lode Christian School, I served as a Kindergarten aide for nine years, supporting students and teachers while helping young learners build a strong foundation for future success.
 
In 2022, I returned to Mother Lode Christian School, where I began working in the toddler classroom. Today, I am proud to serve as the Lead Teacher of the Butterfly Class. In this role, I strive to create a warm, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.
 
Teaching children has been a lifelong calling for me. Whether in a preschool classroom, a home daycare, or an elementary school setting, I have always believed that every child deserves patience, encouragement, and opportunities to discover their unique gifts. Watching children grow in confidence, develop new skills, and experience the joy of learning continues to be the most rewarding part of my career.
 
Outside of the classroom, family is at the center of my life. I have been married to my husband for 45 years, and together we have raised three wonderful sons. Our family has grown to include two daughters-in-law and five cherished grandchildren who bring us great joy. We have called Tuolumne County home for the past 43 years and feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful community. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve local families and to play a small part in the lives of the children entrusted to my care each year.
